The Only 3 Exercises That Made My Biceps Visibly Bigger
A note on equipment: all three of these need a gym — a barbell, an incline bench and dumbbells. The argument itself is a good one, and unusually disciplined for the genre: three movements trained properly beats ten curl variations rotated at random.
What are the three exercises?

What it gets right
The core message — fewer exercises, executed better, progressed over time — is well supported. So is the emphasis on controlling the lowering phase and avoiding momentum, both of which are about keeping tension on the target muscle rather than moving the weight by any means available.
The brachialis point is anatomically sound. It does sit beneath the biceps brachii, and a neutral grip does reduce the biceps’ mechanical advantage, shifting work toward it. Whether growing it produces a visible “push” on the biceps is a reasonable inference rather than a measured finding.
Three claims the evidence does not support
- “Shape” and “peak” are not trainable. The height of a biceps peak is set by where the muscle attaches and how long its belly is — anatomy you inherit. Training makes a muscle bigger; it does not relocate its origin or insertion. No exercise sculpts a peak.
- Heavy 6-10 rep sets are not required for arm growth. A 2026 trial randomised 201 people to elbow flexion at 8-12RM or 20-30RM, all sets to task failure, 3×/week for 6 weeks. The lighter group gained more elbow-flexor thickness (~0.30 cm vs ~0.20 cm; Hammert et al., Med Sci Sports Exerc, 2026).
- The deep-stretch advantage is weaker than claimed. A Bayesian meta-analysis of 12 studies on training at longer versus shorter muscle lengths found trivial differences in regional hypertrophy at proximal, mid-belly and distal sites, and concluded both produce similar effects (Varovic et al., Int J Sports Med, 2025). The incline curl is a fine exercise; it is not a growth cheat code.
